How do I connect a USB printer on Android?
Use this guide for a USB receipt or kitchen printer plugged into an Android tablet running Sidro POS.
Before you start:
- A USB thermal printer that uses ESC/POS, with 58mm or 80mm paper loaded
- A tablet that can use USB devices. If the tablet only has a USB-C port, you may need a USB-C to USB adapter (OTG).
Connect and set it up:
- Plug the printer into the tablet and turn the printer on.
- In Sidro POS, tap the More tab, then under Station tap Thermal printers.
- Tap Add profile and type a Profile name, for example Counter USB.
- Under Transport, tap USB.
- Under Connected USB printers, tap your printer. If it is not listed, tap Refresh.
- Under Paper, choose the Paper width (58mm or 80mm).
- Tap Save profile.
- Under Printer roles, tap the printer under Receipt printer (and Fulfillment printer or Batch summary printer if needed).
Test it:
- Under Saved profiles, tap Test print.
- The first time, Android asks if Sidro POS can use the USB device. Tap OK (or Allow).
- You should get a slip that says "Sidro POS test print". Tap Done.
Common fixes:
- "USB host is not available on this device.": this tablet cannot use USB printers. Use a Bluetooth or network printer instead.
- "No USB printers found. Plug in a USB printer, then refresh.": check the cable and adapter, turn the printer on, then tap Refresh.
- "USB printer permission was denied.": tap Test print again and tap OK when Android asks.
- "USB printer not found for vendor/product ids.": the printer was unplugged or swapped. Plug it back in, then tap Edit on the profile and pick it again.
