Can I use a barcode scanner?
Yes. Sidro works with USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners that act like a keyboard (often called HID or keyboard mode), on the Android POS app and on web POS in a browser. You can also scan with the camera.
Before you start:
- A USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner in keyboard (HID) mode that sends Enter (or Tab) after each scan. Most scanners do this out of the box.
- Barcodes added to your products in Catalog (see How do I add barcodes to a product?).
Connect a USB scanner:
- Plug the scanner into the computer or the Android tablet. A tablet with only a USB-C port may need a USB-C to USB adapter (OTG).
- Open any notes app and scan a barcode. If the numbers appear and the cursor moves to a new line, the scanner is ready.
Connect a Bluetooth scanner:
- Put the scanner in pairing mode (see its manual).
- Pair it in the Bluetooth settings of the tablet or computer.
- Test it in a notes app the same way.
Scan on Point of Sale:
- Open Point of Sale with an open batch (cash register).
- Scan the item. Sidro adds the matching product to the order.
- You can also type a barcode or Item code (SKU) in the Search or scan barcode box and press Enter.
Common fixes:
- Nothing happens: make sure the scanner sends Enter or Tab after the code, and close any open pop-up such as the PIN pad or modifiers.
- "No menu item for this barcode.": the code is not on any product. Add it under Barcodes in Catalog.
- Wrong or missing characters: set the scanner's keyboard layout to US English (see its manual).
